February 2010
Dear Fellow Lions,
My message this month is to tell you how proud I am to be a member of the Farmville Lions Club. When I walk into our membership meetings I know I am among friends who care about one another. A perfect example is what took place at our meeting on January 19, 2010. There was a discussion on how we as Lions can be of help to the devastated country of Haiti. Betty Robb shared a message from Lions Club International Foundation on a donation of $350,000 raised through their organization and Lions all over the world while some of our members talked about their individual donations to help the people affected by the earthquake. The next discussion concerned our own club’s members who are suffering from health issues and were unable to be with us. The compassion was sincere, and it was clear we were not just members of any club, we were Lions.
As Lions “we serve” is not just a slogan. It is what makes us stand apart. Our mission is to help people with vision and hearing problems and promote diabetes awareness, but we do so much more. Some of our members drive for Meals on Wheels. Others help elderly people in our community with transportation when needed. Many of our members are very active in outreach through their churches, just to name a few. And the most important thing we all do is be there for one another.
These are just a few of the many reasons I am proud to be a Lion and honored to serve as your president this year. Thank you all for the amazing support you give me every day. I could not do my job without each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Lion Darlene Bratcher, President
